October 4, 2003

What have I done this week… I ordered some CDs and a DVD online. But the important stuff…I spent Monday and Tuesday finishing up the art work/liner notes and promo posters for my music and films and doing some programming. Wednesday and Thursday I programmed different songs and edited a few.

I did work on my marketing plan on Thursday as well. It's rather extensive now (60 plus pages). Just looking at it made me tired and I've actually got to do all that stuff when I put out the projects. But it's not just for music; it's for my first two films as well.

Yesterday, I was trying to obtain advertising rates from a company and everyone seemed to be at a loss as to whose department that would fall under. First I was transferred to a couple people who weren't responsible for advertising. Then I was transferred back to the operator, who transferred me to someone else she thought might be the appropriate person.

I was transferred to ad sales, but it was the department that buys advertising for their company, not sell it, so then it was back to the operator (see, this is why I procrastinate in making phone calls of this nature). Then I was finally transferred to a department that handles advertising and the rep sent me the rates. All of my other business calls were quicker, so that wasn't too bad.

Spoke to my dad and little sister yesterday and they are doing well. He told me about the jokes my little sister's been making about me cause I hadn't called all week (I'm gonna kick your butt - I'm kidding). I was very busy though. I'm getting closer to the album's release date so I haven't had much time to do much else than work.

My mom's also doing well. She and her friends want to go to Tallahassee to watch a football game. I'm not going, I've got work to do. My godbrother and his mom are also doing well. He was picked for his junior high basketball team and he's very excited about it. They got to customize their uniforms, he chose #34, like Shaq. I asked him if he can dunk like Shaq yet and he said no "but I can touch the rim." You go boy! He's 13, but already 5'9. They've got a game today and then they all go out to dinner after, which they usually do. I'm glad that he's got nice, sensible friends.

The Marlins beat the Giants and people here are happy about it. Speaking of Miami sports teams, it makes me laugh when opposing teams try to demoralize the Dolphins by bringing signs that read "Squish the fish." I can't let the locals catch me laughing at that joke cause it's making fun of the Dolphins, but you've got to admit, it is kind of funny.

What's even stranger is the amount of Knicks supporters you see at Knicks/Heat games. My theory is it is because a lot of people from New York retire to Florida (Yea, locals having New York accents sort of gives it away - seriously, Miami people like New York as well, it's a great city). So when the Knicks play in Miami it's almost like a home game for them. When the Heat play in New York...ok, yea, it's like an away game for them.

This week I read that tennis player Althea Gibson died. My condolences to her family. My dad named my older sister after her.

Song and Album of the Week

"Throne Room" by CeCe Winans. The Winans family have put out some great music, this solo album is no exception. CeCe has also started her own record company called Pure Springs Records, much success to her. To visit CeCe's web site please click here.

October 6, 2003

Hey guys, I'm having a good day. I woke up early, did a bit of reading (news) and then started working. I spoke to my dad on the phone this morning, to which he jokingly answered "what are you doing up this early" (not funny, daddy! - I'm kidding). We talked about music.

He told me about an article he read which named Aretha Franklin as one of the best singers. As I mentioned last week, my older sister is named after the late tennis player Althea Gibson. I mentioned a few months ago that my little sister was named after a character on one of his old favorite TV shows. My mother and I joke that it's a wonder he didn't name me Aretha.

My dad says Aretha is the best female vocalist ever. I remember one day I asked him as a joke (I was kidding) if he was sure that she is and he laughed then said he was gonna pull over and put me out the car for saying that. I think the only reason he approved of the name Aisha, which my mom chose, is because it starts with an "a" and ends with a "ha" like the name Aretha, so it was close enough for him.

Can you imagine a new artist putting out a record now with the name Aretha? That would be like starting in the NBA now with the name Michael Jordan or becoming an actress now with the name Katharine Hepburn. That would be too much pressure and people would be like uh, you better go change your name. I'm just kidding.

Artist of the Week

Scott Krippayne - I like his song "What Breaks Your Heart" from his album "All Of Me," which I heard on Spirit FM. He also has a new album out titled "It Goes Like This," which I'm going to listen to when I take a break. To visit his web site please click here.

October 9, 2003

Hey guys, I'm here doing some paperwork. I'm also planning a trip to commemorate my birthday and to serve as a little break before the album. My mom doesn't want me to go by myself or to go somewhere that I don't have a relative. I don't usually go on vacation by myself, but I'm not afraid. I usually plan out our trips and make all the bookings anyway.

It's just that my mom had an unpleasant experience vacationing alone, so she doesn't want me to go on vacation by myself. When she was my age, she went on vacation by herself and a soccer player kept knocking on her hotel room door. She didn't realize he'd followed her from the lobby. She wasn't interested, told him through the door that she wasn't, but he kept knocking on the door anyway. Needless to say the whole experience upset her.

October 14, 2003

Hi guys. I've spent the last few days, with the exception of Sunday, writing and recording. I also went over to Miami Beach. The weather here has been great. Right now, I'm here programming music and watching the Marlins/Cubs game.

Songs of the Week

Stacie Orrico's "Strong Enough" and "There's Gotta be More To Life" from her self-titled album. I've been hearing her music on Spirit FM for a while, but just recently saw the video for "There's Gotta be More To Life." Her album is one of the best released this year. God gave her a beautiful voice. I hope things go well for her. She is a teen artist signed to a major and that can be difficult sometimes.

Note I received an email today informing me that someone has been posting as me on a gossip columnist's message board. I want to clarify that it was not me. While I do post on two message boards right now, one for a Christian ministry and the other for tennis, I'm not the person posting on that gossip board and I would not post on a message board under my name. People really shouldn't get obsessed and do things like that. It is not good for your emotional well being. While, it did bring new visitors to this web site, I don't approve of anyone doing that and want to state once again it was not me. God bless.

October 16, 2003

It's 5:13 PM. I've been programming for a few hours now. I wrote a lot of music yesterday. I have some more writing to do today as well.

Congrats to the Marlins, well done. The Cubs played a good game too. Kerry Wood is a good pitcher (though he had that "trade me now" look on his face in the dugout after the match last night. I'm just kidding).

A friend of ours who lived in Chicago for years and is a Cubs fan called today and I happened to answer the phone (Aisha smirking). I graciously (Ok, facetiously) happened to bring up the fact that the Marlins beat the Cubs yesterday...and she replied "I'm going to kick you." Ok, violence is bad. Well, maybe it was like telling my Mom about the 20 Marlins tickets I could have bought for $20, maybe I just shouldn't have brought it up haha.

It's almost as funny as a well known Miami hotel offering the young man who caught the ball that Chicago Cub Moises Alou (a former Marlin) tried to catch, a free three month stay at their exclusive hotel until he relocates. Poor guy was really being dissed in Chicago, but he's not to blame, as many officials have stated. I read that the state is offering to put him in the witness protection program here.

To that man I say, come to Florida, you're one of us now!

October 22, 2003

Hey guys, how are you doing. I'm doing very well. I got a lot of sleep last night, when I woke up I couldn't believe the time, 12:31PM (I was recording music and went to bed at 4AM this morning), but I feel good and well rested. I've been juggling a lot of things here, but by God's grace it's working out very nicely. I'm going to do some paper work and then start recording again. I also have to remix a few songs today.

Artists of the Week

The artists of the week are two perennial favorites of mine, Steven Curtis Chapman and Michael W. Smith. My favorite song by Steven Curtis Chapman is "For The Sake Of The Call" and my favorite by Michael W. Smith is "Place In This World."

October 25, 2003

Hey guys. I spent last night recording and today editing and mixing my album. I also made the reservations for the trip for my birthday. I made travel arrangements to take a vacation in a couple places in Europe, but I delayed it by a couple weeks. Therefore, it will be towards the end of the next month, God willing, rather than on my birthday, which is at the beginning of the month. The reason for that is my godbrother's birthday is a few days after mine and his birthday party is a week and a half after that and I don't want to miss his birthday.

Congratulations to the Marlins on winning the World Series! How do you like them apples! (Sorry, I just wanted to say that and I'm kidding, so please, no hate mail from any New Yorkers, especially my New York relatives). The Fish didn't get squished, like the signs read that certain people made. All the New York transplants who live in Florida probably aren't laughing at that joke.

Speaking of that, remember on October 4th, 2003 on this page where I wrote about my theory of crowd support at Florida/New York games here, well the following Saturday (October 18th, 2003) Channel 5 did a segment on Florida and New York and included the same thing I wrote about regarding crowd support at home games (an unusual amount of New Yorkers at games here cheering for New York teams due to the fact that they are transplants).

They also showed footage again of one of the greatest sports moments ever...Alonzo Mourning and Larry Johnson getting into a, uh, dispute and of course the best part, Jeff Van Gundy trying to break up the fight and unintentionally sliding from Alonzo's arm to his feet, sort of like a slide at Six Flags, then holding on to his foot for dear life (well, he meant well). That was a classic sports moment. I'm just kidding.
