April 18. 2002 Congratulations to Narria on the birth of her baby Liam. He is my honorary nephew Narria and you will be my sister in law no matter what. I spent last weekend in Jamaica and had a wonderful time. I stayed with my lovely family. It was wonderful and I learned so much. I filmed all over Kingston. I got some great footage of the trip. The turbulence was a bit bad on both flights, but thank God I arrived there safely and returned safely as well. The view of Jamaica from the plane was so beautiful. The trees, mountains and grass were a rich shade of green with the red dirt called bauxite highlighting it all. The sun was setting and it all looked so lovely. I went to the hills in Kingston I used to wonder
about as a child. When you are driving around Kingston especially at night, you
notice the lights from the homes in the hills. The food was great. The food out there really
taste different, very wholesome and natural. Especially the Chinese food... and
the fried chicken which I don't eat much of, but the one in Jamaica is really
good. I watched a cricket match with my dad. It was India vs. the West Indies. I hadn't watched cricket since I was a child and my dad explained the objective of the game to me. I really liked the match, but it must be exhausting playing the game. My dad made a dedication to us on the air during his radio show, but my sister's dedication was hilarious (see next paragraph). He said I love you to me on the air (aww that was so sweet, I love you too daddy). He said I should come back again and stay longer. Then he said something that stunned me. He said I know the music better than he does. I was like is he feeling okay, I can't believe he said that and on the air! That was a huge compliment though. He also said that I interrupted him during the day when he was preparing his records for his show. Hey I was trying to get some songs for possible remakes. I burned about 6 hours of music from record to CD in one sitting (it took about 9 hours including time to find each record). Everyone was like are you are still awake burning CDs. By the way daddy, a certain record I was looking for and asked you for mysteriously ended up being played on the air. As for my little sister, he wished her a happy birthday, then he called her out on the air and said she gives too much trouble. I froze cause I was so stunned at what I'd just heard and her little mouth dropped open when she heard him say that. I couldn't help but laugh. Then she blurted out "where's his number at the station." She called in and my dad's assistant started making jokes too. His assistant said "Is this rude Trudi Rae?" I laughed so hard witnessing all of this. Then she started complaining to his assistant "I'm not rude." My little sister is now thinking of taking legal action. It was like being in the middle of a sitcom. I'm sorry I didn't have my camera rolling to capture it all. I love you Trudi baby, don't let them annoy you, but in all fairness, she does make jokes about daddy too. Well, his on air dedication was the coup de grace. Daddy I'm sorry you weren't there to see her little face. I'm sitting there trying to stay neutral, "yes Trudi, I can't believe he said that on the air" and at the same time "Daddy, that was hilarious." Hey, I'm just glad he didn't call me by nickname on the air. |
