Outing Gay Celebrities - Is It Sound Legal Territory

Bloggers like Perez Hilton and now former publicists, Jonathan Jaxson, have taken to outing celebrities as gay in a big way. Jaxson's claims are drawing attention because he was proven correct in the past. While I don't know those two bloggers and this isn't about them personally, I would like to discuss the legal aspect of this trend popularized by Perez.

If a person is labeled gay and they are not, can they sue. Some judges have thrown out such lawsuits under the premise that being called gay is not a slur or something bad.

However, what if it is a person who makes their money in the entertainment industry off an image of being a wholesome, straight family person with children. If the person is actually gay or bi-sexual then the image would be a lie and they did so at their own risk. But what if they are not gay and are labeled as such causing their career and reputation harm.

In closing, as a Christian, I like millions of others of the faith believe based on the Bible that being gay is not God's will for a person's life. However, He gave everyone in this world free will, therefore it is each person's choice.
